FAQ

General

How accurate are the AI-generated responses?

We rigorously and continuously evaluate our agents' accuracy across different tasks. Our agents excel at faithfully citing and attributing information from scientific literature—generally outperforming humans in accurate source attribution. For analytical outputs like data analysis, current measurements show expert agreement rates above 75%, though these outputs are more difficult to quantify definitively.

Scientific rigor is core to our mission, and we're constantly developing new evaluation methods to measure and improve accuracy. For detailed performance metrics and methodology, see our System Card and Technical Report.

Access and Subscriptions

What subscription plans do you offer?

Visit our pricing page at for detailed information about features and pricing for each tier.

Do you offer academic discounts?

Yes, students and academics with a .edu email address receive 10 credits per month plus a 650-credit welcome bonus with Kosmos access, giving you the opportunity to try our most advanced research capabilities. Bonus credits expire 30 days from signup.

Can I apply for a research grant of credits for a project?

This is on our internal roadmap and we hope to create an application portal soon!

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings or visit https://platform.edisonscientific.com/subscription. You'll retain access to paid features until the end of your current billing period. No refunds are provided for partial months.

Billing and Payments

How does billing work?

Subscriptions are billed monthly. You'll receive an email receipt for each payment.

Can I change my subscription plan?

Yes, you can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time from your account settings. Upgrades take effect immediately and you'll receive the full credit allocation for your new plan right away, regardless of how many credits you've already used in the current cycle. Downgrades take effect at the start of your next billing cycle, so you can continue using your current plan's features until then.

What happens if I exceed my usage limits?

You can upgrade your plan or purchase additional credits (available for paid plans only). We'll never charge you unexpectedly or cut off your access without warning.

What's the difference between subscription credits and top-up credits?

Subscription credits are included with your monthly plan and reset at the start of each billing cycle. Any unused subscription credits expire when your cycle renews—they don't roll over.

Top-up credits are purchased separately and never expire. They remain in your account until you use them, even if you downgrade or cancel your subscription.

When you run tasks, subscription credits are always consumed first, followed by top-up credits. This way, you get the most value from your subscription while keeping your permanent credits as a backup for high-usage periods.

Do you offer refunds?

Subscription payments are non-refundable. However, you can cancel anytime and you won't be charged for future billing cycles. You'll continue to have full access to your plan's features and credits through the end of your current billing period.

Technology

Where do you get papers?

We only access papers that are pre-printed, open access, or available from fair use crawling. The individual sources are places like arXiv, bioRxiv, publisher websites, and pre-bundled articles like S2ORC from the Allen Institute for AI. Based on our internal runs of agents, we can access about 150M papers. We do not distribute papers or excerpts of the papers, regardless of underlying license.

If you believe we have distributed a copyrighted article, please email dmca@edisonscientific.com and include the DOI and link on our platform.

How do citations work?

When our AI provides information from scientific papers, we always include inline citations with links to the original sources. You can click on any citation to view the full paper details and access the original publication when available.

Can I integrate the platform with other tools?

Yes, you can use our API to integrate with your own tools using an API key tied to your account. Visit https://platform.edisonscientific.com/profile to make an API key and link to our documentation.

Security and Data

What happens to data I upload for Kosmos or other agents?

Unless you give us explicit permission, data files you upload are not used for training and are private to your account. As stated in our privacy policy, we may use your inputs and outputs to train our models to improve the Services only if you do not explicitly opt out through your account settings.

Who can see questions I've asked?

All queries are private by default and governed by our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Your inputs and outputs are only accessible to you unless you explicitly choose to share them. We do not sell, use, or process your personal data for advertising, promotional, or consumer characterization purposes.

Can I make my queries public?

Yes, you have the option to make specific queries publicly viewable. To share a query, go to the output of the task, click "Share" at the top, select "Public," and click "Save."

Once public, those queries will be visible to anyone with the link and may be indexed by web crawlers, appearing in public search results. Publicly shared content may also be used for model training to improve our Services.

Is my research data secure?

We take security seriously and employ industry-standard encryption and security practices to protect your data. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. As outlined in our Privacy Policy, we implement commercially reasonable administrative, organizational, and technical security measures to protect your personal data from unauthorized access, disclosure, misuse, alteration, or loss.

Can I delete my data?

Yes, you have the right to delete your account and associated data at any time under our Privacy Policy. You can do this through your account settings or by contacting support@edisonscientific.com. Please note that we may retain certain information where required by legal obligations.

Troubleshooting

Why is my query taking so long to process?

Processing times vary by task type:

Individual agent runs (literature search, data analysis, etc.) typically take 5-10 minutes

Kosmos deep research projects take an average of 12-48 hours due to their comprehensive analysis across multiple sources

You'll see a progress indicator while your query is being processed. If an individual agent run exceeds 15 minutes or seems stuck, try refreshing the page.

I uploaded a file but it's not processing. What's wrong?

Check that your file meets these requirements:

Total files per query under 5GB combined

File is not password-protected or corrupted

The AI response seems incorrect or irrelevant. What should I do?

Use the thumbs down button below the response (which will prompt you for detailed feedback) or click "Feedback" in the side panel to help us improve. You can also try rephrasing your question with more specific details.

I can't access a paper that's cited in the results.

We provide citations to papers in our database, but we don't host or distribute the papers themselves. If a paper is behind a paywall, you'll need institutional access or to purchase it from the publisher. Many papers are available as preprints on arXiv, bioRxiv, or other open access repositories—check the citation for alternative sources.

How do I report a bug or technical issue?

Use the thumbs down button below any response (which will prompt you for detailed feedback) or click "Feedback" in the side panel.
